Today the students learned about the meaning and importance of the number zero!

We began by reading the story "Zero is the leaves on the tree" that explains that zero is not nothing, but rather that there is not a number of objects present. For example: in winter when there is not any leaves on the trees we can say that tree has zero leaves.

We then talked about the how zero changes numbers based on whether it is before or after a number:

01, 02, 03, 04

or

10, 20, 30, 40

Finally we discussed the result of adding Zero to a number and how it does not effect the total.

0+0=0, 1+0=1, 2058+0=2058
