This week, we have been reading the book, 'This Plus That - Life's Little Equations'

by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. In this book, simple arithmetical equations show how big and small moments add up in life, such as,  

1 + 1 = us

yes + no = maybe

red + blue = purple

laughter + keeping secrets + sharing = best friend

This little book is also a wonderful model for children to consider their own life equations. 

Our classes are writing some of their own autobiographical equations modeled after these little passages. What a great way to combine writing and math!
