January Virtue

Sportsmanship

In our newsletter, we read that sportsmanship is how people behave when they are playing a game or sport. When you are demonstrating goo sportsmanship you are polite and fair to others. You are gracious when you win and gracious when you lose a game. Displaying good sportsmanship includes being kind, generous, encouraging dedicated and understanding. All of these virtues can be shown every day when we are working and playing together.

Today, Mrs. Reimer shared a story that was written by a female soccer player Mia Hamm. She tells a true–life–inspired story of learning that winning and losing aren't as important as being part of a team.More than anyone, soccer superstar Mia Hamm knows the value of teamwork and perseverance.

Please click on the book to listen to the story Winners Never Quit, then discuss the following questions with your child

  • What was the author’s  (Mia Hamm) message in this book?
  • Would you want Mia to play on your team if she always quit before the game was over?
  • How did Mia’s brother help her learn how to be a team player?
  • What are some of the ways that you show sportsmanship?
