Welcome to Raz Kids Reading

At last week's Parent -Teacher conference, we shared the RAZ - kids cards which provides the information for accessing the web site from home. For our new students and parents we would like to provide you with some additional information on this reading website.

Each student is set up with an account that contains a selection of appropriately leveled books to read. After a book has been read, there is a comprehension quiz that goes with each book to gage the level of understanding of the text. If the student has trouble on the quiz, (therefore did not have a good grasp of the plot and/or information that they read) they are encouraged to re-read the book and then take the quiz again. If a student is successful on a quiz, they are rewarded with stars that they can spend in the RAZ Rocket Room (there are games, virtual creatures, etc. to play/purchase).

Please have your child read a few  books and complete the accompanying quiz each week. This should be done independently so that it is an accurate demonstration of their skills. The goal of this activity is to help your child to self monitor their understanding during and after they read an unfamiliar text.

If you have any problems with the website, please contact us at any time. Thank you

Please note, that Mrs. Reimer was ill today and the students
were unable to exchange their books from the Learning Commons.

Students will be able to sign-out new books on Monday morning.

Students thoroughly enjoy their daily opportunity to explore the shelves of
fiction and nonfiction books in our Vista Heights Learning Commons.
