Each student was given 10 Unifix cubes of the same color and a white board and asked: How many different ways can you make ten?"
Some students worked alone while others worked in small groups discussing and combining their different ideas.
It was amazing to see the variety of answers that appeared when asking the children to make ten in different ways. We saw students make number sentences that showed addition as well as using pictures to show some of the different ways to make ten.
